The hands-off flash sale playbook

· automation, pricing, operations

A flash sale is a scheduling problem disguised as a pricing problem. The discounts are easy; doing them to hundreds of products at the right minute — and undoing them — is the hard part.

Stage everything in advance

The night before, build the schedule:

  1. Tag the sale products so a collection picks them up automatically
  2. Drop prices at the start time with rounding rules applied
  3. Revert prices and remove the tag at the end time

Batch, don’t babysit

Apply one schedule across the whole batch instead of editing products one by one. Bulk Edit runs the actions on the timeline you set, so you’re not clicking through the admin while traffic spikes.

Fewer mistakes at scale

Manual edits across hundreds of SKUs are where typos and missed reverts happen. Scheduling the whole lifecycle — on and off — removes the human error from the busiest moments.
